In the late 19th & earlier 20th centuries, Sandusky, OH was the “Ice Capital of the Great Lakes - known for its “crystal blue, clear as glass" ice. 400,000 tons of ice were harvested each year and shipped throughout Ohio & beyond. Real winter conditions this year have allowed beautiful thick lake ice to return to the Western Basin! This icy “wave” was photographed Sat. morning (2/22/2025) near Marblehead Lighthouse.
Three bracketed HDRs with different focus points (nine total images) were stacked to create an image with balanced dynamic range & increased focal plane.
