Story time. Though the tale doesn't relate to this particular vantage, it still bears telling. Table Rock overlook is a little-known rock outcropping in nowhere, WV with beautiful sunrise views. We made three attempts to visit it on this particular trip:
- drove to the gravel entrance road; gate was closed
- started hiking well before dawn with Matt Shiffler; eventually it became light & we still hadn't reached the trailhead; five miles in we turned around (10 miles round-trip - no views)
- left Stumptown Ales after an amazing Cleveland Browns win over the Cowboys; decided to try driving in from a different direction. After driving down the gravel bumpy "road" for quite a few miles, I rounded a corner & BANG! Bottomed-out on a rock so hard the whole car shook. Blew out my oil pan! Three-hour tow & $1000 later, we were back in business.
